Individual pleads guilty to sexual offenses against young males at summer camp
A person who laced sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC stated materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his family member notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The legal representative stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the authorities again.
She said the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five children.
